This is one of those features I accidentally discovered by wondering what the Quick Notes entry was doing at the bottom of my notebook lists on the left-side navigation of my OneNote client. After a quick bit of research, I think this will now become a go-to feature for me.

To launch a Quick Note, click View > New Quick Note (you can also use the Windows – N key combination on Windows):
That produces a free-floating Quick Note that you can use as a scratchpad to record just about any type of information you would normally put in OneNote:
Create a Notebook. Just like physical notebooks, OneNote notebooks are a collection of note pages. Quick Notes (formerly called Side Notes) is that digital 'scrap of paper'. But unlike those scraps of paper, you won't lose them because Microsoft OneNote saves them automatically. There are two ways to start Quick Notes. Note: Quick Notes appear with a simplified interface and a customizable lavender background. Click the row of buttons on top. When I create a Quick Note (New Quick Note, or Windows + N), everything is fine: OneNote puts it on my desktop and I can move it around at will. However, once I close OneNote and/or shutdown my computer, all of my Quick Notes are sucked into OneNote and thereafter only visible as. Take notes in OneNote Type notes. Click anywhere on a page and then start typing. As you type, a note container appears around the text, which. In OneNote, you can add new pages to your notebook whenever you want. Each page can be given a title to make.
When you close the Quick Note, it is stored like every other page in OneNote in your Quick Notes “notebook” that shows up at the bottom left-side of your OneNote navigation:
Another nice feature… if you want to make these Quick Notes stay pinned on top of other screen content, click the ellipsis (the three dots) in the top bar of the Quick Note:

That expands out the Ribbon Bar for the Quick Note, and you can click View > Always On Top to keep the Quick Note front and center on your computer screen:

Sometimes you'll come across a tidbit of information that you know you'll need, but don't know where to put it just yet. In that case, use quick notes.

- Send to OneNote icon in the Windows System tray.
A menu opens, with a few options. You can create a new quick note, open OneNote, or save a screen clipping to OneNote.
- Select New quick note.
Even though it appears nothing has happened, the note is saved.

- Open the OneNote window.
When you're working with quick notes it's best to pin the Notebook pane.
- Click Quick Notes in the Notebooks pane.
And they are all here, listed at the right.
- Select a quick note.

Although you could click the page tab at the right and drag it into a section to move it, that doesn't give you any flexibility for which page to put it on.
